KISMET Con Update

There's a Kismet Update and alone reading about all the great things that are planned makes my littlte fangirl heart jolt with excitement. As always I'm posting this on behalf of the hosts of Kismet, Kate and Anne.

For everyone who likes to check out the basic information including dates, prices, and location please look at the masterpost here:

Masterpost Kismet

You can still sign up and we hope to hereby whet your appetite :)

Well, things are coming together and, having achieved our minimum number of attendees (yippee!), we are now fine arranging the programme of events. We will have an exciting packed programme of panels and discussions with lots of fun games and quizzes as well as the usual favourites: a zine library and dvds available to watch at any time and Chris doggedly pursuing you with her raffle tin.

There will also be a rolling story available throughout the weekend and all additions will be welcomed. You might want to, but can you ever forget the great rhubarb epic? Can we surpass such brilliance? Of course we can!

Saturday night will feature our Star Trek mega-quiz with mega-prizes to match, so start sharpening your brains in preparation! Which will be your team’s joker round?

Here are some ideas that have been asked for already:

·        Mpreg Why? How?

·        Vulcans: Naughty or Nice

·        Is Kirk that good a leader?

·        The Top ten K/S Stories. Bring along your favourites and be prepared to share.

·        Writers’ Tips panel.

Anything else you would like to see on the programme? Just let us know at kismet2011 at hotmail.co.uk

If anyone would like to lead a discussion / panel we will be very pleased to hear from you. The more variety the better, we say.

We are particularly looking for:

·      writers to share their methods and give advice

·      anyone with song vidding experience to introduce the rest of us to this special skill

·      anyone who has discovered K/S through the new film which has lead them to the original and best K/S

·      people to talk about the darker side of K/S and its appeal

·      we are thinking of offering a K/S craft session so if you have a particular craft skill to share, please let us know.

·      However, if you have an interest in any other area of K/S and are willing to  share it with the rest of us, please let us know. Same email address as above.

We are hoping to publish a con zine and are looking for entries. Gorgeous prizes will be awarded for:

1.      Best K/S drabble. In case you don’t know, a drabble is a story of exactly 100 words in length excluding the title. The drabble must include the word ‘kismet or ‘fate’;

2.      Best K/S limerick, the ruder the better! And remember what Spock rhymes with so well;

3.      Best K/S romantic haiku, a poem of three lines and 17 syllables, 5, 7 and 5 syllables for the three lines;

4.      Best K/S cartoon: you don’t need to be a great artist as just a few lines will do , if you have a good caption. Cartoons need to be sent electronically, even if scanned.

NB: We are not planning a short story competition in the light of the low number of entries in recent years. However, if you wish to submit a  story, let us know as soon as possible and if we get some interest, we’ll reconsider.

All competitions will be decided by attendees voting during the weekend and prizes will be awarded at the Closing Ceremony on Sunday.

NB: If there is only one entry in each category, then that entry will win by default. So take the plunge – you might te the only brave one!

Send entries to kismet2011 at hotmail.co.uk  with Zine Entry in the subject heading by July 29th, please.

Do you sketch, paint, sew, knit, embroider, carve, sculpt, or build things out of Lego or Meccano, or loo rolls and sticky backed plastic? We are always amazed at the skills amongst K/S fans so we are planning an arts and craft show if there is enough interest. Wherever your creativity lies, bring along your masterpiece and we’ll display it lovingly. Please let us know by 29 July if you are going to bring something along.

These are now available for Saturday only and will cost £65 with evening meal or £50 without. These prices cover all costs, lunch and refreshments. Get in touch if you or anyone you know is interested.

Car parking costs £3 per day if booked through us so let me k now if you want a space reserved. If not booked through the con, parking will cost £5 per day.

Please note that car parking is limited and the university encourages the use of public transport where possible.

Just to clarify - the art comp.

1) How many pages/ big should it be?
2) Anything NOT allowed?
3) Do you have to be going to the con to enter?
4) Colour or B/w?
5) How many pic's per person? =3

I ask because I have three sketches right now that I'd love to complete and enter if allowed.

Re: Ref: CON ZINE.
Just heard word and I'm sorry: The zine competitions are only for people attending the con.

To include your work in the art show (that perhaps takes place) is no problem, but for the zine you'd have to be there....

Re: Ref: CON ZINE.
Ah. I understand - thank you for all your efforts on my behalf. If there is another con next year in U.K. I hope to attend.

Good Luck!
